Game PlayRoller Derby consists of two teams of five players, A Jammer who is the points scorer, A Pivot who controls the teams strategy and three Blockers who play a defenisve role trying to block the opposing teams Jammer whilst trying to help their Jammer score points. When the first whistle goes the pack sets off, with the pivots dictating the pace. On the second whistle the Jammers set off and try to get through the pack. The first Jammer through is designated as 'Lead' Jammer and they now control the jam. Once they have passed the pack for the first time the Jammers can then score points. They receive one point for each opposing skater that is passed and an extra point called a 'Grand Slam' for lapping the opposing Jammer. A jam lasts for two minutes or until the 'lead' Jammer calls off the jam by placing their hands on their hips. Players can block and try and knock the opposing players off the track. The referess keep a close look out for any illegal moves, tripping etc... and will dish out penalties for infringements. A bout is made up of two half hour periods |
